Founder/operator experience building and scaling regulated services
I am not there to tell you everything is fine.
Bring me in when the problem crosses functions, the obvious answer is not working, or you need someone who can move from evidence to operations to systems and find a route through.
A particular set of eyes built across very different operating environments.
Founder-led work is priced above the practitioner rate because the value is the combination: operator, business builder, safeguarding and governance leader, systems thinker and experienced decision-maker under pressure.
From £950 + VAT per day.
Direct access to John McGill for complex, high-consequence, cross-functional or stuck problems where the value is the breadth of operational judgement brought to the room.
I will test what you have been told against what the evidence supports.
If there is a gap, contradiction, weak control or uncomfortable issue, it gets raised.
The purpose is not criticism. It is clarity, ownership, improvement and follow-through.
When you need more than reassurance.
These are the situations where independent challenge can be more valuable than another internal meeting or another report telling you what you already know.
I am not a hired yes-man.
If the evidence supports your position, I will say so. If it does not, I will say that too. If something is missing, weak, contradictory or putting people at risk, I will raise it rather than smooth it over.
Experience you can verify. Judgement you can test.
John's background spans UK Armed Forces service, austere and high-risk environments, ambulance operations, local government, regulated care, safeguarding and multi-site leadership. The value is not a list of job titles. It is the accumulated ability to understand a frontline reality, read the wider operating landscape, test the evidence and turn that understanding into practical action.
Multi-industry operational experience, brought together into one practical way of seeing and fixing systems.
- UK Armed Forces experience — learning discipline, responsibility, teamwork and how frontline detail connects to the wider operational picture
- Operational work in austere and high-risk international environments, where situational awareness, judgement and composure mattered
- Around 11 years across ambulance and healthcare operations, including ownership and operation of an independent ambulance service with CQC registered-manager responsibility
- Ambulance operations spanning mental-health work, patient transport, frontline activity, urgent care and specialist support
- Multi-site operational leadership across public, private and regulated environments
- Registered-manager experience across four distinct service environments: independent ambulance/healthcare, domiciliary care, residential learning-disability & autism, and secure dementia services
- Local-government operational leadership, safeguarding, governance, service improvement and evidence-led assurance
We do not arrive with a predetermined answer.
ORVIA works alongside accountable people, existing systems and specialist routes to understand what is actually happening, what is creating risk or friction, and what evidence supports the next step.
We will not recommend a change, product, system or course of action unless we can show you the evidence and reasoning for why we believe it is needed.
Where specialist legal, clinical, regulatory or professional advice is required, we identify that boundary and recommend the appropriate qualified route rather than pretending ORVIA replaces it.
If we see a problem, the answer is not automatically an ORVIA product.
We do not automatically sell you software. We first establish what the spreadsheet is doing, why it exists, what risk or duplication it creates and whether a better system is justified.
We may recommend an ORVIA product, an existing product you already own, a third-party platform, integration work or a white-label solution — whichever is best supported by the requirement.
We say so. Sometimes the answer is clearer ownership, a changed process, better supervision, training, a governance control or simply removing unnecessary work.
We do not stretch beyond competence. We identify the boundary, preserve the evidence and support a controlled referral or hand-off to the right professional route.
John does not have to be the only person in the room.
Where the assignment needs a broader skill mix, ORVIA can bring practitioners around the problem: governance, safeguarding, evidence, operations, quality, systems, implementation and assurance.
ORVIA practitioners are selected and developed around evidence discipline, professional boundaries, safeguarding awareness, structured challenge, practical implementation and verification that the fix actually worked.
Use the capability you already have.
- Work alongside your existing leadership and specialist teams
- Bring in additional practitioner capability only where the evidence shows a gap
- Recommend your existing software when it is fit for purpose
- Recommend third-party, white-label or ORVIA software only where justified
- Define specialist legal, HR, clinical or regulatory hand-offs clearly
- Verify whether the intervention actually improved the problem
Focused, accountable work with a defined outcome.
The engagement starts with the result you need, the responsibility involved and what must exist when the work ends.
Operational leadership, not consultancy theatre.
John has held senior operational responsibility across independent ambulance services, regulated care, local government and overseas security. His professional development includes advanced safeguarding, health and social care leadership and strategic management.
He works from the evidence available, states where information is incomplete and keeps consequential judgement with an accountable person. Technology may support the work; it does not replace professional responsibility.
Clarity you can act on.
- A named consultant who knows the assignment
- A written scope, rate and timescale before work begins
- Plain advice about what is supported, missing or unresolved
- Challenge where the evidence does not support the current position
- Agreed actions, owners or written outputs where included
- An honest answer when another professional is required
The rate follows the responsibility.
A consultancy day is up to 7.5 hours. The applicable rate is confirmed in the written scope before any time is booked.

Make it easy to bring me into the right problem.
A day rate buys time and judgement. It does not quietly include a complete ORVIA package.
Formal evidence reviews, full audits, assurance opinions and substantial written reports require their own written scope. Where a fixed ORVIA package is more appropriate, ORVIA will say so before work begins rather than allow a day-rate assignment to drift.
Clear scope. Clear rate. Clear accountability.
Consultancy is invoiced weekly and payable within seven calendar days. New clients may be asked to pay for the first booked day in advance. The written scope records the rate, location, expenses, deliverables and any cancellation terms before the engagement starts.
If something is not right, say what is happening.
If ORVIA is not the right fit, you will be told plainly. If it is, you will receive a written scope and price before committing to the work.
